This is not just a preference; it changes how they evaluate work: attention has shifted from the solved problem to the process of applying effort, and to the evaluation of whether enough visible effort was involved.<\/p>\n

Take a mundane example. You couldn't be bothered to make breakfast, so you ordered a pizza delivery. The transaction is closed. You are eating.<\/p>\n
Now listen to what the effort-focused thinker discusses. They will debate your laziness, your lack of cooking skills, your moral failure as a freeloader. They will speculate that you stiffed the courier on tips (though you always tip). They will point out that your grandmother's borscht is a hundred times better (undoubtedly true, but entirely irrelevant). They will wonder where the government is looking while the youth degenerates. And they will gloat: soon the delivery subsidies will end, you will learn the real price of a pizza, and then you will dance.<\/p>\n
They may focus on the method and ignore the outcome: you got food.<\/p>\n
You had breakfast. For the person who ordered it, that is the relevant outcome. It is so routine it barely qualifies as news. You ate yesterday, you will eat tomorrow, by varying means. The moral debate is separate from whether the immediate need was met.<\/p>\n
The same pattern appears when clients use AI to solve business problems. Remove the hungry person, insert a client with a business problem.<\/p>\n
For the client, the main question is whether the problem was solved. The method matters less to them than the solved problem.<\/p>\n
An effort-first perspective shifts the discussion elsewhere. They will debate whether the client deserves to receive solutions at all. Whether this is a legitimate method of obtaining them. Why the client did not involve them personally. Whether the client can adequately evaluate the result. Whether the result is sufficiently "correct" by their standards. What will happen to this codebase in a year (a critical question to resolve right now, apparently). A common reaction is: if it fails, you will still need specialists to repair it.<\/p>\n
This concern is not baseless: AI-generated solutions can fail or become hard to maintain. Sometimes the method is genuinely crooked. The refrain didn't grow from nothing. But it is not said to help you. It is said to recenter the conversation on effort, method, and professional control: the volume of suffering invested, the correctness of the ritual, professional control over who is allowed to produce solutions. The result \u2014 you ate \u2014 does not register as an achievement in this worldview. Achievement is measured by visible sacrifice rather than usefulness.<\/p>\n
Now look at this through the client's eyes.<\/p>\n
The client usually wants the problem solved with minimal friction. They wanted to eat and get back to their actual work. Faced with repeated objections about process and legitimacy, they look at it and think: finally, I have AI.<\/p>\n
That is the core argument. AI does not remove the need for expertise. AI reduced the need to depend on slow or expensive expert-mediated processes that effort-obsessed experts spent decades selling as the substance of their craft. The client was handed a way to eat breakfast without first persuading a specialist to take ownership of the task.<\/p>\n
The practical shift is simple and uncomfortable for many. Clients increasingly reward ownership of outcomes more than visible effort. From "how much was invested" to "did the client get their problem solved or not."<\/p>\n
The specialist who accepts responsibility for the result remains valuable. The specialist who sells only process discipline and effort discovers that the client found a way to eat without them. The unresolved problem is accountability for the final result. Experiments, demos, and debates about legitimacy do not by themselves assign responsibility \u2014 and not a single person is accountable for the problem being solved. The client feels that vacuum before anyone else, and chooses whoever accepts responsibility for solving the problem.<\/p>\n
